There has been some confusion in the past as to Turners first recorded work. “View down Collins Street..”
is often quoted, however the honour would seem to belong to “Kangaroo Hunt” catalogued as painted in
1873, the year he arrived in Melbourne. Both paintings are atypical of his later generally recognised style.
